International
Space Policy

International relations in outer space are a wonderland for political scientists.
a
First: space policy overlaps with an astonishing number of other policy areas as security, critical infrastructures, environment, mobility, connectivity, energy, resource management, trade, economic development etc.
a
Second: cooperation, competition and conflict in outer space provide an unmatched rich field of testing and developing international relations theories. Not by chance, the international relations in outer space have established its own kind of space diplomacy based on the character of outer space as a global common.
a
The seminar will investigate practical issues and theory-based explanations for what happens in outer space. Additional perspectives will be provided through the lecturer's experience i.e. as the former Chair of the Legal Subcommittee of the United Nations Committee for the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.

The seminar was already held in the summer semesters 2005, 2016, 2020 and 2024 as well as in the winter semesters 2003/04 und 2006/07.
